Furthermore, like other paper characters, he has black eyes instead of gray eyes. These traits were later carried over to the Mario & Luigi games starting from Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga + Bowser's Minions. He also often does not realize what is happening until he stops for some seconds to think. Unlike in Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam, Morton speaks in a simple, loud, and unintelligent manner similar to Lava Piranha from the first game. Through hacking, it is shown that even with overpowered/powerful cards, the player cannot beat Morton without the fire extinguisher, as his HP will not go down after a certain point. In the Japanese version upon being defeated, Morton instead says 「おかた」, which translates to this gentleman, which was presumably done to avoid giving away that Bowser, or rather, Black Bowser had been behind the theft of the Paint Stars before his formal debut. Upon being defeated, Morton will allude to his Master ordering him to steal the red Big Paint Star, causing Huey to deduce that someone else was indeed searching for the Big Paint Stars. The duo also discovers that Bowser was the one who sent them the color-drained Toad in order to coax them to come to Prism Island. The fire can be put out using a Fire Extinguisher Thing card, that leaves only the grip of the hammer intact, decreasing its attack power to 1 HP. Once Morton has received enough damage, he sets his hammer ablaze, drastically increasing its attack power to 48 HP. After the pedestal is blown away by Mario's hammer, Morton directly attacks Mario with the hammer, dealing 8 HP of damage, or by spinning his shell, dealing 12 HP of damage, then, after a while, he calls for two Shy Guys who bring another pedestal in battle and fight with him. While on the pedestal, Morton can attack by slamming on the ground, creating a shockwave that deals 4 HP of damage and inflicts the Crumpled status effect if not blocked. In the first part of the battle, Morton stays on a pedestal taken into battle by two Shy Guys, that also aid him in battle, and retreats on his shell as Mario attacks. In combat, he uses his magic wand transformed into a large wooden hammer. Bowser is then possessed by it.Crimson Tower and acts as the game's first boss. After jumping in it, he mixes all of the paint to his shell, unaware of the process of creating black paint. After watching the fountain, Bowser then has an idea of having a multicolored shell. Meanwhile, airships arrive and Shy Guys fall from them, starting the invasion.īowser watches Toads having fun with paint. Scared Toads witness Bowser being possessed by black paint. Shy Guys are seen stealing paint of their true colors and pouring it in giant buckets attached to Bowser's airships.īowser's minions start to invade Port Prisma and steal the paint from the environment and its inhabitants. A Toad is then sent to Peach by Kamek and the little bridge is destroyed by Bob-ombs. Slurp Guys start to drain Toads of their colors. The red star repaints the Scarlet Gate in Sunglow Ridge, the yellow star repaints a giant coin in Mondo Woods, the blue star repaints the entire sea in Violet Passage, the purple star repaints the gigantic sinkhole in Mustard Café along with the entire rest of the world map's sea, the orange star repaints the Draggadon fossil in Marmalade Valley, which results in it transforming into the real monster, and the green star repaints Luigi's kart somewhere else on Prism Island.īlack Bowser is seen throwing each Big Paint Star out of Port Prisma. Finally, when the last one is obtained, it reveals what actually happened to Bowser. Each Big Paint Star, when rescued from the Koopalings, repaints big areas which can't be painted by Mario's hammer normally and tells a little part of the game's story, although disordered. Big Paint Stars resemble Grand Stars from the Super Mario Galaxy games and Shine Sprites from Super Mario Sunshine.īowser, possessed by the black paint, threw them far away from Port Prisma. Collecting all six restores color to Prism Island and allows Mario and Huey to go to Rainbow Road to face Black Bowser and rescue Princess Peach at Black Bowser's Castle. Each one is guarded by one of the Koopalings (except for Roy). There are six of them in the game, each one being a different color: red, yellow, blue, purple, orange, and green. They are larger versions of the Mini Paint Stars. The Big Paint Stars are the source of color that appear in Paper Mario: Color Splash and are housed at the Prisma Fountain. “Port Prisma without Big Paint Stars is tuna-fish sandwich without ketchup! *sob*” - Huey, Paper Mario: Color Splash Official artwork of the orange Big Paint Star from Paper Mario: Color Splash
